FAQS

Joining Annex

Do I need to be in shape before coming to your gym?

Absolutely not. We all start our fitness journey at different points in our life. Some are athletic all through their adolescence and some have never been inside a gym in their life. The one commonality behind every person who walks in our doors is that they have a body.

The Annex has programs for all people at all different levels of fitness. Our coaches are knowledgable and educated in proper scaling to ensure your training is within your capabilities at all times.

If it’s been a while since your last workout, we recommend our Semi Personal Classes which will allow you to get accustom to working out again with customized programming and attentive coaching. Click here to learn more about this program.

What makes this gym different from others?

Each human has their own way of moving. We have a past that has required different needs from our body. Because of this, we all develop distinct movement discrepancies and overcompensations. The Annex places an emphasis on Movement Therapy. We ensure each of our members are moving well (pain free) and moving properly prior to adding any intensity in regards to speed, volume, and load. It is our number one goal to encourage each member to learn about their body. We want to make sure you’re aware of your weaknesses to ensure we are building upon them constantly to move well and live well.

Isn’t CrossFit bad for you or unsafe?

CrossFit is simply a trademark and a company. Because each affiliate is ran by a different owner, has a different head coach, and has the freedom to create their own programs, it is not inherently “bad” or “unsafe” unless it is presented poorly. To us CrossFit is the joining together of individual people working out as a team. Each person in our gym wants to improve themselves. They want to get healthier, stronger, and feel better about themselves. CrossFit creates an opportunity to learn something new and take little steps towards improving every day.

What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 Programming fro CFLB?

  • Level 2: Movement Challenge
  • The goal behind this level is to challenge you to become completely aware of the way you move and the way your muscles activate. We will combine slower movements with movements that require speed. Single arm and single leg movements coupled with bi-lateral (2-arm and 2-leg) movements to identify any weaknesses your body may have developed. By forcing your body to move in these domains you will open up opportunities to access more potential strength and muscle activation, increase your movement efficiency, improve your stability of supporting muscles and joints, as well as improve your comfort in a variety of positions and exercises. This tier is for EVERYONE.
  • Level 1: Skill Challenge
  • High intensity, general fitness. The way I program for our Community Training is to allow each athlete to continually put their skills to the test. The programming will roll through focused cycles throughout the year aimed at exposing weaknesses and overcompensations and attacking them one at a time. Our methodology puts a focuses on weightlifting, strength training, cardiovascular stamina, and gymnastics while adding in the necessary training to ensure our joints and tendons remain strong enough to endure the forces we put on them on the daily.

Can I try a class before I start?

Absolutely! We DO want you to have the best experience possible, so we require any free-trial athlete to sit down with one of our coaches prior to the workout to discuss your past experiences, injuries, and goals. Schedule your trial meeting here.

Do you offer Open Gym Memberships?

One of the biggest differentiators between the Annex and other gyms is our knowledge of the human body. We understand the demands of training on the body and the most advantageous ways to move with load. Because of this, we require a minimum of 3-Months Coached Training at the Annex as well as a Final Assessment with a coach prior to granting access to Open Gym times.

What is the Fit3D?

The Fit3D Scanner is a tool used to measure body composition. In one 370-degree turn, the Fit3D will take over 300 photos to create a 3D Avatar of your body. You will learn where you hold the most muscle, body fat, and how to properly fuel your body with food for fat loss or muscle gain. Check out this awesome video for a sneak peak

Do you offer Personal Training?

We do offer Personal Training on an as-needed basis. Working with a coach 1-on-1 can help you progress to your goals much quicker than in a group setting since your attention and programming is specific to you.

I have a previous injury, can I workout here?

If you have been cleared to workout from a licensed professional, you will be allowed to workout here. Depending on the injury, we may recommend going through a specific Functional Range Assessment with our certified practitioner to ensure you’re free from pain and overcompensations.
